  1. Equipment is for use on Instruction Courses and trips that have been organised by the Wellington Section. It is not intended for use by members on their own private trips or for general instruction courses organised by other organisations.
  2. An “instruction course” is one which is advertised as a Wellington Section instruction course in the Club’s newsletter, “Vertigo” or on the Welington Section website and approved by the instruction subcommittee.
  3. A “trip” is one which is advertised as a Wellington Section trip in the Club’s newsletter, “Vertigo” or on the Welington Section website. Alternatively it will have been promoted by the Club as a course follow-up trip and will have appropriate organisation. The committee, Trip Coordinator and Gear Person will have been advised of its organisation and will be satisfied that it is legitimate.
  4. Borrowers of Section equipment will be one person either the course or trip organiser or a delegated representative.
  5. The Borrower and only the Borrower is responsible for arranging pick up and return of equipment directly with the Gear Person.
  6. Borrowers undertake to inspect equipment prior to deployment to satisfy themselves that the equipment is in good condition and suitable for the purpose for which it is being used.
  7. Climbing has unique risks. Borrowers will be familiar with the equipment, its correct use and assume responsibility for their own and their group’s collective safety when using the equipment.
  8. Borrowers undertake to return equipment clean, dry and coiled in the case of ropes, to its normal place of storage.
  9. Borrowers undertake to return equipment within one week after use.
  10. Borrowers undertake to advise the Section of any incidents which may affect the integrity of the equipment. Incidents could include falls, impacts, chemical exposure or any act which causes damage. The Section operates a “no blame” policy. This means that the Club will cover the cost of repair or replacement of damaged gear however, the club reserves the right to the request that lost gear be replaced at the borrower’s expense.
  11. The responsibility of the Gear Person is that of an unpaid volunteer who simply stores the gear and logs its use. They are not responsible for its condition and will not undertake inspection of gear every time it is used. They are no more responsible for its condition than any other Section member.
  12. The club gear will not be available for Trips while there is a Wellington Section Instruction Course on.
  13. The NZAC Wellington Section takes no liability for equipment failure.
